We are St. Luke’s Diaper Bank.

St. Luke’s Diaper Bank works to provide an adequate and reliable supply of diapers to babies, toddlers and their families in the city of Kalamazoo. It is modeled after successful diaper banks around the country, providing diapers to organizations that are already helping families in need through comprehensive programs and services. Diaper banks using this model ensure that diapers are distributed to the families that need them the most and in the most effective way.

St. Luke’s Diaper Bank was started by Founder Jax Lee Gardner in the Fall of 2015. It started out as a social justice project in collaboration with Kalamazoo college and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. While working on this project, Jax realized the extreme challenges faced by families who can’t afford enough diapers and was inspired to organize a diaper drive to help the community. And St. Luke’s Diaper Bank was born!

Our Mission

The mission of St. Luke’s Diaper Bank is to supply diapers to partner agencies that serve families in the city of Kalamazoo who are living under the pressures of economic inequity. St. Luke’s Diaper Bank, with a commitment to cultural competence, works to eradicate diaper need in Kalamazoo through education, capacity-building, and in-kind donations of diapers and diapering supplies.

How We’re Funded

St. Luke’s Diaper Bank is a recipient of a supportive grant from the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region. This funding allows us to work in partnership with the Douglass Community Association to run a weekly walk-in diaper pantry. This pantry is available to anyone in the city of Kalamazoo who is struggling to provide diapers for their child(ren). We are so grateful for the support of the United Way, which makes this program possible.

We are a proud member of the National Diaper Bank Network. The National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that children, families, and individuals in the United States have access to the basic necessities required to remain healthy and to thrive in daily life.

St Luke’s was founded in 1837 and has been proudly supporting the Kalamazoo community and  local Kalmazoo organizations since then. When the knowledge about diaper need was brought to them a number of years ago, they were eager to help. The concept of helping God’s littlest children is something the church has always believed in and by partnering with the Diaper Bank, they are able to help lots of children in need.
