It’s here!
We are so excited to announce that our new website is live! This has been a project that we have been wanting to complete for a while now, but we just didn’t have the resources to do it. However, thanks to our partnership and the team members and staff of Code for Good West Michigan, we now have a fully-functional, mobile-friendly, user-friendly website with an option to translate the entire site into Spanish!
When we approached Code for Good, our main goal was to redesign our website to fit the new logo that our volunteer Cori Ivens designed for us (Thanks, Cori!) and educate our community about diaper need. We wanted a website that would not only inform the community on the importance of diaper need, but also give us a more professional presence online that would hopefully attract more donors, volunteers, and partners. We also needed some help with social media, and with finding an inventory system that would work for our diaper bank.
Our Code for Good team managed to complete all of these tasks and more in less than 72 hours! Not only did they create a fully-functional website that translates to Spanish and is mobile friendly; they also helped us redesign some documents and created a template for those for consistency, gave us some social media tips and created some example posts, and helped us solidify our new diaper bank inventory system created by Ruby for Good.
The team was led by Ty Carson, who is a graphic designer, writer, and content coordinator; and consisted of Marion Luxem, a web designer; Emma Wiest, a graphic designer; and Luis Perez, an applications engineer who helped us with translating the website content to Spanish.
We met with Ty in Kalamazoo and talked about our goals and his plans and ideas for the project. He organized all of our content in advance by placing the content onto the correct pages and rewording the content for clarity. Ty gave us some social media tips and examples, and drafted wireframes for the project. He then sent those wireframes to Emma who created all of the wireframes in Adobe XD and designed the infographic information you see on the home page, the general layout of the site, redesigned some documents for us, created a branding guide, and created a template for future documents. While Emma was working on that, Marion was working on transferring our site from Zoho to WordPress and started designing a custom website using WordPress and Divi. During all of this process, Luis translated the website content and confirmed translations for accuracy.
We are so grateful to everyone at Code for Good who helped make this project a success. It has been so nice to have this wonderfully talented group of people take interest in our diaper bank, and help us present our information and need to the Kalamazoo community.
